AI Research Lab for Students (RWTH × Industry)

A selective student research track for developing publishable AI projects in collaboration with academia and industry.

We are building a structured research program at RWTH Aachen that enables highly motivated students to move from studying state-of-the-art papers to contributing to technically rigorous, supervised research projects with real-world relevance.

Why this exists

Many strong students are interested in research early on, but lack:

• a clear structure from reading papers → writing one
• access to relevant, real-world problem settings
• consistent academic or industry supervision

This initiative addresses that gap by creating a focused, guided pathway into applied AI research.

Program structure

The program follows a structured 3-phase approach:

1. Research immersion

• Reading and discussing recent papers from top venues (e.g. NeurIPS, ICML, CVPR, ICLR)
• Exposure to current research directions and methodologies
• Participation in relevant workshops and conferences (e.g. ICLR in late April 2026)

2. Reproduction & technical grounding

• Reimplementation or critical analysis of selected papers
• Understanding limitations, assumptions, and experimental setups
